How Much Caffeine is in Coffee?

How Much Caffeine in Coffee

The amount of caffeine in coffee can vary depending on a number of factors, including the type of coffee bean, the brewing method, and the serving size. So, does coffee give you wings?

On average, an 8-ounce (240-ml) serving of brewed coffee can contain about 95 milligrams of caffeine. However, the amount of caffeine can range from about 40 milligrams in some decaffeinated coffee to over 200 milligrams in some energy drinks or very strong coffee.

Espresso, a concentrated form of coffee, typically contains more caffeine per ounce than brewed coffee. A single shot of espresso (1 ounce or 30 milliliters) contains about 63 milligrams of caffeine. A serving of drip coffee typically contains about 100-200 milligrams of caffeine per cup.

Keep in mind that some instant coffee has less caffeine content than brewed coffee, and decaffeinated coffee has had a majority of caffeine removed from it. It's important to know that the daily caffeine intake limit for healthy adults is up to 400 milligrams, which is roughly the amount in four 8-ounce cups of brewed coffee. Pregnant women, people with certain medical conditions, and certain medications may need to limit their caffeine intake even more. It's always best to consult with your doctor if you have any concerns.
